So, a small but overdue note: Kyle's inspiration for the character of Dan was our good friend Dan, who I believe has been working on his beard since before he had teeth. It's not an absurdly huge beard, just awesomely sculpted and better cared-for than some people's pets.

Accordingly, I based my visual design for comic Dan on friend Dan to a certain extent. Dan hasn't had a haircut like that in years, and his nose isn't that huge, and his beard is bigger and his eyebrows aren't spiked but you know what? I never said I was an artist, and I don't think I've given you any reason to think that I am. Case in point: that car has no roof.

Friend Dan's personality -- the macho, gruff bits of it -- are the inspiration for our beard, whereas his friendliness and intellect have more in common with Razorproof Dan.

Anyway, I'm just saying: Dan, you continue to inspire us. Never change. And never shave.
